London air quality - Current and future forecast

Informations about warm weather, speed of the wind, level and dispersion of pollution, hourly updates.

Current forecast

Cold, still weather is forecast to continue due to a high pressure system over the United Kingdom. Primary pollutants emitted during Sunday evening, including particulates from domestic wood burning in residential areas, are likely to persist into the early hours of Monday.

A further build-up of pollution is then expected from the morning rush hour period onward as working weekday emissions are poorly dispersed, resulting in 'Moderate' levels of PM10 and PM2.5 particulate. The worst pollution is expected close to busy roads in central and inner London, with particulate levels likely to reach the upper part of the 'Moderate' banding. At a few locations, 'High' particulate pollution is possible.

'Moderate' levels of nitrogen dioxide are also possible by congested roads during the morning and evening rush hour periods.

Air pollution is expected to remain 'Low' throughout the forecast period for the following pollutants:

Ozone
Sulphur Dioxide

Future forecast

Cold, still weather is expected to continue throughout Tuesday, with foggy conditions forecast during the morning.

Poor dispersion of locally-emitted pollutants is again expected and this is likely to result in 'Moderate' levels of PM10 and PM2.5 particulate. The highest pollution concentrations are expected close to busy roads in central and inner London, particularly where any fog persists. 'Moderate' levels of nitrogen dioxide are also possible by congested roads during the morning and evening rush hour periods.

Air pollution is expected to remain 'Low' throughout the forecast period for the following pollutants:

Ozone
Sulphur Dioxide
