Air quality

Current forecast

Although Monday will start with air coming in from France this will soon change to a feed of clean high level air from out over the Bay of Biscay which will help disperse any pollution imported in the first part of the day.

Although temperatures are forecast to reach the mid-20s extensive cloud cover is expected with the chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. This cloud cover should limit any photochemical generation of ozone.

Air pollution is expected to remain 'Low' throughout the day for the following pollutants:

Nitrogen Dioxide
Ozone
PM10 Particulate
PM2.5 Particulate
Sulphur Dioxide

Future forecast

Tuesday will start with air which was over the UK on Friday circulating over the Low Countries and coming back to us. This circulation path path will gradually extend in to Germany through the course of the day. The height of this path will be critical to how much pollution it picks up but 'moderate' particulate is possible.

With temperatures expected to reach the upper 20s and breaks in the cloud expected around midday atmospheric reactions may result in moderate ozone as well. The extent of cloud cover, and possible thunderstorms in the afternoon, will be critical to levels seen.

Air pollution is expected to remain 'Low' throughout the day for the following pollutants:

Nitrogen Dioxide
Sulphur Dioxide
